What is a fractional CTO?
A senior technical leader who works for a company part-time. Ours is a senior architect, 30 hours a week, who owns the roadmap and architecture decisions.
What is CTO as a service?
The same role as a fractional CTO, bought from a firm instead of hired as a person. Ours is USD 6,000 a month for 30 hours a week, led by Mat Caniglia, and engineers can be added at the published hourly rates.
Should I hire a fractional CTO or a full-time CTO?
Hire a full-time CTO when the role needs a person's whole week and you can run the search. Take a fractional CTO when you need senior direction now and a published price: USD 6,000 a month, 6-month minimum, then 30 days' notice.
How much does a fractional CTO cost?
USD 6,000 a month for 30 hours a week, billed monthly.
Clouditive's Fractional CTO costs USD 6,000 a month for 30 hours a week, billed monthly, with a 6-month minimum. It is a published price, like every rate and package on this site. If you first need to know what you have, Discovery is USD 7,000 for 1 to 4 weeks and ends with a full roadmap.
Who will be my fractional CTO?
A senior architect chosen to fit your company, led by Mat Caniglia. Who fills the role depends on the client, and Mat leads every project end to end.
What happens in the first two weeks?
In week 1 we understand your product, your systems and your team. In week 2 we plan, prioritize and put in order what comes first, then coordinate and organize the work with your team.
What does a fractional CTO do?
Sets the technical roadmap, makes architecture decisions with your team, helps with hiring and reviews the team, and meets your leadership once a week.
Is a fractional CTO right for a startup?
If the product is the business and nobody senior owns the technical direction, yes. If you only need a system designed, the architect at 20 hours a week costs less.
A company whose product runs on software but has nobody senior who answers for it. The CTO left, the founder is not technical, or the team grew faster than its direction. The signs are production that keeps breaking, a roadmap nobody can defend, and hiring without a technical bar. A part-time CTO fixes that without a full-time hire.
How is this different from your architect?
The architect is 20 hours a week at USD 4,480 a month and focuses on the system. The fractional CTO is 30 hours at USD 6,000 and adds roadmap, hiring and team review, and the weekly leadership meeting.
The architect at 20 hours a week costs USD 4,480 a month. They design the architecture, answer your team and build with it. The fractional CTO is 30 hours a week at USD 6,000 a month and adds the leadership work: the roadmap, hiring and team review, and the weekly meeting with your leadership. Take the architect for the system, the CTO for the direction.
Can we start with something smaller?
Yes. Discovery is USD 7,000 for 1 to 4 weeks and ends with a full roadmap: backlog, roles, critical changes and needs.
Is there a minimum term?
Yes. 6 months, like staff augmentation. After that, 30 days' notice ends it.
It is billed monthly: USD 6,000 for 30 hours a week. The first 6 months are the minimum, and once they pass a 30-day notice ends the engagement.
In which language does the CTO work?
In English, Spanish or Portuguese, whichever your leadership uses.
