What does a mobile app development company do?

A mobile app development company designs, builds and releases the app people install on a phone, and the server behind it that holds accounts, data and notifications. An app is rarely only an app: it needs an API, a backend, often an admin side, and a release process that passes the review of Apple and Google.

A senior team builds the app with its web and backend at the published rates. Native or cross-platform is settled in Discovery.

Autonomah's mobile app, built by Clouditive

Autonomah's mobile app is where a person signs off the posts that go out, from their phone.

We built the app together with the platform behind it. The screens below are the app's own, at phone width (390 pixels). The platform went from its first commit to production in 15 days. We publish no store listing, rating or download count.

  • Approve: the pieces waiting for a signature, each with its day and time, and one button to review the first.
  • Plan: the week by day, with the status of every piece.
  • Prove: what was published this month on a calendar, with the receipt each network returned.
  • Approval inbox: six pieces waiting for sign-off with times. (interface shown in English)

How the price is built

You pay the published hourly rate for the hours worked, and a month is 160 hours. The sheet above prices a new mobile app: a Lead at USD 55–60 an hour and a Senior at USD 45–50, 160 hours each. It is an example, not a quote.

Native apps for each platform and one cross-platform codebase need different hours, so the team is sized after Discovery fixes the choice. Two people instead of six holds when we have access from day one: the repositories, the environments, CI/CD, the cloud and one decision-maker. Store review by Apple and Google is theirs to schedule, and we plan the timeline around it.

Team size by situation

  • Evolving an existing product4 people · 1 monthUSD 30,400–33,600

What you get from a mobile app build

  • The app for iOS, Android or both, built native or cross-platform once Discovery shows which fits your users, their devices and your budget.
  • The backend and the API the app needs, and a web or admin side where the product has one. Our published web and platform work is that half of the job.
  • Screens designed in Figma at 390 pixels and approved before they are built, then checked for accessibility on the critical flows.
  • Tests in your CI, and a backend release where production runs exactly the build that was tested, with data migrations done before the new version takes traffic.
  • Store listings and developer accounts in your name, like every other account we use for you.
  • All code and intellectual property are yours from day 1, and we sign an NDA before the call if you ask.

What we have shown, and what we have not

Every claim is on its case page with its dates. Strong means built end to end with figures; Partial means a smaller or weaker proof, stated as such.

Partial What a mobile app also needs: 43 screens designed at 1440 and 390 pixels, on a backend of 12 business areas with signed releases.

Not shown: It is a responsive web product, not an app in a store.

Strong Autonomah's mobile app, shown above at phone width, with the server side behind it: 90 API routes behind a client portal and an admin console, every production release checked to run the exact tested build.

Not shown: We publish no store listing, ratings, download counts or user figures.

Performance by network in the agency console: what 3 networks report on 7 pieces from 2 brands, with the source of each figure. (interface shown in English)

Not shown: It is a web product. We make no claim about launch, users or revenue.

Work we have not shown. E-commerce stores and modernization of legacy applications are not in our published case studies. Ask us before assuming, and we will tell you plainly whether we staff it.

The rates behind every example

Engineers and designers are priced on the same seniority table, per hour worked. Add or remove people as the work changes; the arithmetic stays the same.

Frequently asked questions

What does a mobile app development company do?

It designs, builds and releases the app people install on a phone, together with the backend that holds its data. Ours is a senior team that builds the app with its web and backend, at the published rates.

How much does it cost to build a mobile app?

You pay the published hourly rate for the hours worked. A Lead and a Senior for a 160-hour month cost USD 16,000–17,600, and adding a Senior designer for 80 hours makes USD 19,600–21,600. Every price here is an example, not a quote. If the scope is open, Discovery costs USD 7,000 first.

Native or cross-platform?

We settle it in Discovery, from your users, the devices they use, what the app needs from the phone and your budget. We do not sell one approach by default.

Do you have a mobile app to show?

Yes: Autonomah's mobile app, built by Clouditive. Its screens are on this page at phone width (390 pixels), and the case has the figures for the platform behind it, including 15 days from the first commit to production. We publish no store listing, ratings or download counts.

Do you also build the backend and the web version?

Yes. One senior team builds the app, its API and backend, and the web side at the same rates, so there is one team to hold to account.

Who publishes the app to the App Store and Google Play?

The developer accounts stay in your name. We prepare each release for submission. Apple and Google review every app, and their timing is theirs.

How much does it cost to hire a mobile developer?

A Senior engineer is USD 45–50 an hour, a Mid USD 35–40 and a Lead or Architect USD 55–60. 160 hours of a Senior is USD 7,200–8,000. Our engineers are in LATAM and work in English or Spanish.

Who owns the code?

You do, from day 1. We sign an NDA before the call if you ask.

What happens after delivery?

A change of the same size swaps a backlog item at no cost. New scope is quoted at the published rate before it is done. Defects found within 30 days of delivery are fixed at no cost.
