Toptal and BairesDev alternatives for a nearshore team

Tecla, CloudDevs and Arc print hourly figures. So do we, and our real weak spot is the 6-month minimum.

If you are looking at Toptal and BairesDev alternatives because you want a price before a sales call, Tecla, CloudDevs and Arc all print hourly figures on their own pages. So do we: Senior is USD 45 to 50 an hour, there is a 6-month minimum, and you interview the engineer who will do the work. Where those firms beat us is commitment and scale, and I’ll get to both.

What does BairesDev say about its rates?

On its nearshore page BairesDev says you typically get US-quality work at “30-50% less than the fully loaded cost of a US hire”, and that “We hire fewer than 1%.” It also says “our hourly rates seem higher but the total cost is often lower”. The page doesn’t print an hourly figure.

Those are BairesDev’s own claims and I can’t verify them. Whichever firm you shortlist, ask for the rate for your exact role in writing before you compare anything. Ours are on the staff augmentation page, by seniority.

Who prints a price before a call?

Three firms do, each on its own pricing page. They don’t all print the same thing.

Firm Hourly figures on the page Terms mentioned
Tecla “All-inclusive” averages: Junior USD 28, Mid USD 48, Senior USD 58, taken from current and past engagements No multi-year lock-in, mostly rolling monthly terms, a shortlist 1 to 2 weeks after intake
CloudDevs A range of USD 45 to 75 an hour, plus a calculator that shows about USD 28, 48 and 58 for a Full-Stack Developer at Junior, Mid and Senior A weekly rolling contract, no minimum commitment
Arc USD 15 to 110+ an hour for freelance hires Pay per hour
Us Lead / Architect 55-60, Senior 45-50, Mid 35-40, Junior 30 A 6-month minimum, billed per hour worked, candidates within 1 week
Published hourly figures: Tecla 28 to 58, CloudDevs 45 to 75, Arc 15 to 110+, Clouditive 30 to 60 USDPublished hourly figures: Tecla 28 to 58, CloudDevs 45 to 75, Arc 15 to 110+, Clouditive 30 to 60 USD
Each firm prints a different kind of number, so the gaps are a reason to ask questions.

Each column is a different kind of number. Tecla gives averages, CloudDevs a range plus one example role, Arc a range for freelancers, and we give a band per seniority. So the gap between Tecla’s USD 58 and our USD 45 to 50 is a reason to ask questions and proves nothing about who is cheaper. Ask each firm what the rate includes, which role it applies to, and whether it changes after month one.

Where do the others beat us?

Two places, and either one can decide it for you.

Commitment first. Our staff augmentation has a 6-month minimum, and Tecla and CloudDevs describe rolling monthly or weekly terms. If you need someone for six weeks, they fit better than we do. Our answer to that is a fixed-price package before the minimum starts, from USD 4,000 for two weeks. It buys a result, though, not a person on your team.

Then scale. BairesDev says it has worked with over 1,450 companies since 2009. We don’t publish a headcount. We confirm availability for your roles on the first call and present candidates within 1 week, and I would not promise you a 40-person team next month. If you need that, talk to a firm that can show you the scale.

What is different about us?

The packages. Next to the hourly rates there is a fixed price for the common jobs: the Cloud Cost Review is USD 2,500 for 1 week, CI/CD and IaC is USD 4,000 for 2 weeks, IDP Foundations, AI Agent Pilot, QA Automation Foundations and SRE / Observability Foundations are USD 5,000 each, and Discovery is USD 7,000 for 1 to 4 weeks. The scope of each is written down on the pricing page.

The hiring terms are simple. You interview the engineer who will do the work, and if that engineer leaves or doesn’t fit, we replace them within 10 business days and cover the handover at no cost.

Some limits. We do AI engineering, platform engineering, DevOps, SRE and QA, so if you need a mobile app or a design team, we are the wrong call. Our engineers work between UTC-3 and UTC-5, which gives at least 4 hours of overlap with US Eastern and 2 with US Pacific. And there is no 24x7 on-call: we work your business hours and leave alerts and runbooks for your own on-call to use.

Which questions should you put in writing?

Send the same five to every firm, us included, and line up the answers. They also work for any vetted-freelancer network, Toptal included.

  1. What is the rate for this role and seniority, and what moves it up or down?
  2. What is the minimum term, and what is the notice after it?
  3. If the engineer leaves, who presents a replacement, how fast, and who pays for the handover?
  4. Who employs the engineer, and who owns the code and the accounts from day 1?
  5. When do I see candidates, and do I interview the one who will actually work?

Our answers are on the staff augmentation page, and the arithmetic for a full month is in Nearshore developer rates in 2026. Send us the role, the seniority and the weekly hours, and ask for those five answers in writing before anything else.
